Warwick Academy’s Marine Science Facility
Warwick Academy is the oldest school in Bermuda, established in approximately 1659 and was named after Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick, who originally provided the land for the school.
The Warwick Academy Marine Science Facility was planned with OBM’s Landscape Architect and the head of Science Department, blending a safe classroom setting on the waterfront with the neighboring houses and landscaping to bring architectural harmony and integration with the surrounding environment.
OBMI designed a comprehensive project with an emphasis on a thorough assessment of the site’s infrastructure with detailed site planning, including confirming setbacks, roadways, levels, water access, and paths that included building plans, sections, and landscape plans. The planning approval and facility development had to be completed within the school’s tight budget and timeline.
The project included classroom, storage, bathrooms for student marine science activities as well as the development of the waterfront dock and installation of floating docking facilities. The new dock was essential for water access and potentially for research vessels or boats associated with marine science studies.
The Warwick Academy Marine Science Facility was completed with a strong emphasis on both the functionality of the facility and its integration with the surrounding environment and is a shared facility furthering marine studies.
