Bienvenue

OBMI transformed a 1950s Bermuda cottage into a stylish, modern and open-plan home for a lively family of four.

Managing Director and Senior Interior Designer Michele Smith led the interiors, while Landscape Architect Jennifer Davidson created the elegant and enjoyable outdoor space. Both worked in close collaboration with the client to ensure their vision was incorporated throughout the project.

A priority for the resident chef was a gourmet kitchen with a seamless flow to entertain both indoors & out.  The requirement was a layout where the cook can still be part of the action, even when hard at work preparing food.

The concept for the ground floor design was to create a fluid transition between the kitchen, dining and living room, to the outdoor patio and pool area by way of concertina doors.

The 4400 SF home experienced an extensive redesign comprising of updated lighting, custom cabinetry, flooring, windows, folding accordion doors, furniture selections, firepit, hot tub cove and new hardscape in and around the pool deck. The entry area through the carport gives way to a new mudroom and laundry area, with direct access to the kitchen, family room and kids office, and an new stairway was added to create connectivity to a lower gym and storage area.

The front entrance maintains the original cedar doors, while a covered porch and remodeled stairs were added to the scope. These elements crafted a more welcoming entrance for the owners and guests. A sentiment that complements the property namesake “Bienvenue,” which translates to “welcome” in French.
