SOL Petroleum Refueling Facility
OBMI was selected by SOL Petroleum to create the new home of their fuel storage & supply facility to service aircraft at L.F. Wade International Airport and the private jet terminal.
As local architects of Bermuda’s state-of-the-art passenger terminal, OBMI offered extensive knowledge of the schematic layout and environmental conditions of the desired location. Those factors together with an extensive relationship with SOL Petroleum, made OBMI the natural choice for the project.
The location and design of the new 4,053 sq. ft. facility was both strategic and methodical. Located on the north side of the airport development, the new fuel farm is built in a zone that offers minimal storm impact as well as being above surge tide inundation levels.
Covering 1.8 acres, the new facility replaces the much smaller refueling centre on the south side of the airport property. In addition to the size, the existing location was prone to storm surge and inclement weather conditions.
The refueling facility directly services commercial aircraft ramps, while private passenger jets are able to be serviced individually. The design offers improved access to the aircraft, making for a more safe and efficient transfer of fuel.
With the new location being less vulnerable to storms and flooding, and the surrounding landscape being salt tolerant and sustainable, we can be sure the new SOL Petroleum Refueling Facility will be running in an effective capacity for years to come.
