Overlooking the splendor of Castle Harbour and surrounded by rugged beauty, OBMI was challenged to enhance an estate property in Castle Folly, known as Castle Point. The property had seen little maintenance since the mid-80s, and only two of the eight acres were available for residential development, requiring careful analysis. The end result, OBMI designed an award-winning three-bedroom main house, two guest cottages, and a caretaker’s cottage, all outfitted on immaculate grounds with magnificent views.

A substantial component of the project, was the complete transformation of the landscape surrounding the property. Our landscape architect was tasked with the removal of invasive species consuming the grounds, and replaced with native and endemic woodlands that reflect the unique location of the property. Through extensive evaluation and meticulous design, OBMI was able to enhance the existing landscape and produce an exquisite outdoor place of retreat, privacy and framed views. Also incorporated into the design was multiple entertainment spaces, where the owners and their guests could enjoy the natural amenities the site had to offer.

The endemic and native flora provided a natural habitat for birds, while nesting boxes were strategically placed on the surrounding cliffside to expand the existing nesting habitat of the Bermuda Longtail.

As a result of the complete restoration of the overall landscape and the high-density planting matrix, the Castle Point Woodlands Management Project, developed and implemented by OBMI, won the National Energy Globe Award Bermuda 2018.
