Piers Kermode
Architect
Piers joined the OBMI Bermuda team in 2022, returning to his native Bermuda after spending several years studying and working in Scotland. He attended the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the renowned Glasgow School of Art, gaining his Bachelors (BArch) and Diploma (DipArch). Whilst in the UK, Piers gained experience working for both large and small practices in London and Glasgow, most recently in a critical role as an establishing member of the Scottish branch of Lifshutz Davidson Sandilands.
Piers has worked on a broad range of projects, including significant residential masterplans, high-spec office developments, boutique hospitality, a local community centre and several international competitions. Piers has experience in early-stage design development, planning submissions, and multi-team project coordination.
Piers’ fascination with the Bermudian vernacular and how the natural environment has shaped our buildings led him to pursue a career in Architecture. Piers sees the architecture in Bermuda as a clear example of architectural design responding to its context. He believes that when done thoughtfully, architecture can profoundly influence how we live and interact with our natural environs. He is passionate about harnessing nature’s lessons and using conscientious design to tackle the challenges of the climate emergency.
‘Good design can reshape how we live, work, and feel. I aim to always design with this awareness and aspire to leave a positive impact through thoughtful design.
