Michele Smith has a reputation for translating the essence of creative design into built form. Her ability to manage projects and plan functional, luxurious spaces that respect client budgets are legendary at OBMI. As a designer, Michele has provided turnkey solutions for retail projects, healthcare facilities, hospitality developments, and commercial spaces. Her keen interest in gardening and painting reflect a lifelong fascination with color, shape, and compositional harmony.
Michele fell in love with her craft while designing a small jewelry shop in her hometown. She completed a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnical University, before joining OBMI and relocating to Bermuda in 1985. She was appointed Managing Director in 1998.
In addition to leading the design and project management for luxurious private residences across Bermuda, Michele has applied her talents to hotels, spas, resorts, commercial developments, and head offices. She’s an executive member and past president of the Bermuda Society of Interior Designers (BSID), a member of both the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and the Bermuda Philanthropy. Michele is also a board member of Heritage International Bermuda.
